Hiking!
Yesterday afternoon I decided to go on a hike after returning home from work. The nearby branntårnet (fire watch tower) has been rebuilt on nearly the same site as the old used to be (got pulled down some time in the 60's), so I put on my running shoes (note to self : you need new ones..), packed a couple of oatmeal cookies and a bottle of water - and went out the door.
The climb/track up took me about 20 minutes, which is not bad considering it's a steep climb/walk parts of the way. But the view from the top of the tower was great! This first picture is taken towards Oslo, which is where both me and Hubby works.
Here's the tower and the sun. There are several picnic benches and tables set up around the base, making it a nice place to take a break. (I had my cookies and water.)
On the way down I took the "long route" - walking along the Oldtidsveien (ancient road/path) through the woods. It took a little longer than usual walking down, as I kept finding blueberries along the path.
About 1 1/2 deciliter came home with me yesterday. They were a bit small, but the flavour was incredible...!
I'm considering walking a different route another day, towards the nearby stables (Prinsdalstallen) - I know there might be some blueberries there too, because we've picked berries there before. But is it a bit unusual for these to be ripe so soon? I think we only picked berries (except strawberries) later in the summer or early fall..
This morning I brought yoghurt, oatmeal, strawberries and blueberries to work for breakfast. There's a grand chance I'll do the same tomorrow too!

This is my 6-point diamond star for week 24 of the #fussycuttingsewalong hosted by @naomialicec 🗺 This week it had to be to compass rose. I like travelling, and have travelled to the North (Iceland), South (Egypt), East (Japan) and West (USA), and many places inbetween. Before the end of the year I’ll be able to mark off two new countries on my list - Belgium and Ireland. ✌🏻

Great amusement and excitement!
The coffee at work has been a long time victim of cruel jokes of how management is trying to poison us all by making us drink dishwater. One of my co-workers actually described is cup of black coffee as "beige" - comparing it to the water that's left after you've washed the tires on your car. Well, there's a new machine in town - hot out of the box!
And it's drinkable! *cheering*
Perhaps this is the end of buying our own coffee or spending ridiculous amounts of cash on barista coffee from around the corner (but, it's hard to say no... I mean, before 10AM you get a croissant or pain au chocolate included with your coffee).
I'm currently enjoying listening to my co-workers trying different settings and reporting about the taste.

I've been a bad blogger..
After I linked my Instagram to my blog, I seem to have developed a very bad case of not blogging.. Not that I don't think about it, I often do think about blogging and about writing things. However... when I come home from work, when the kids are off to bed, when the time comes to do the things I want to do - I end up sewing, knitting or spending some time with Hubby. In other words, not blogging.
Not for any lack of equipment - the Mac is there, the phone is there. The desire to do anything involving a computor screen is not there.. not really. My Mac is clearly spending more time in the cupboard (perhaps I should rename it "Harry Potter") and I always have to pull the charger out too when I need to use it.
Atleast I'm crafting!
It seems so simple, to connect these two channels of communication - Instagram and the blog - and know that what I post on IG will also be posted on the blog. And I often think about adding more text to the posts imported from IG - however, they seem to stay thoughts, and then they are forgotten..
For instance, if you've bothered to still follow this blog, you will most likely have noticed those epp stars I've been posting (epp - English paper piecing), and perhaps you're wondering why I seem to be making one each week? Well, I've joined a sewalong on Instagram, where you are to make one 6-point diamond star each week following a theme decided by the host. At the end of the year I will have a minimum of 52 stars, which can be made into a bigger project. I'm currently considering how to sew these stars togheter - but I have decided that I will finish the project by this time next year (2020) and enter in in the Festival of Quilts exhibition in Birmingham! (We're going to Birmingham this year, my mom and I - and perhaps next year too, we'll see.)

I still read blogs these days, but I'm really bad at commenting. Not quite sure why, really.. perhaps because it seems like the biggest blogs are the ones who're still posting regularly, while the smaller, more personal blogs are more drifting off to other platforms..? I used to follow and read and comment so much more on crafting blogs, but now I see that there are more posts posted by the family related blogs that I read - and more rare on the crafting blogs. Where are the crafting bloggers? They can't all have converted over to IG..?

This is my 6-point diamond star for week 9 of the #fussycuttingsewalong hosted by @naomialicec 💜 Honoring and celebrating #kvinnedagen #womansday with purple, I’ve chosen these fabric for my star to represent the quilters in my family - my mom, my grandmother and my great aunts. The fabric in this star are all bought with or given by one of these great crafters. 💜 Quite unbelievable, but this year we’re marching for some of the same causes as my mom did over 40 years ago..

This is my 6-point diamond star for week 6 of the #fussycuttingsewalong hosted by @naomialicec This fabric has been saved for a special project - and with this week borh being lines and love, I thought it had to be perfect. ❤️ It has been saved since I bought it from the store I worked in when I was in my late teens, which - with a litte math and thinking - menas that this fabric has been in my stash for over 22 years. #feelingold It is one of the oldest fabric in my stash - and there’s still a piece left 😍 No idea of who the designer is though.. 🤔

Halloween Mini Swap 2018
The following post was supposed to be posted early Fall, but somehow ended up being left out.. which was really not my intention at all! And I do have a follow-up post about what I received too - which I will post, I promise!
I joined a Halloween swap on Instagram this Summer, and my parcel is now currently waiting for the "good to go" signal from the swap's coordinator.
Sending to one person and receiving from another is kinda exciting. I'm curious to see what will be sent to me - and I'm anxiously awaiting word from my receiver to see if she likes what I've made for her.
She liked happy colours more than the traditional Halloween colours, so I decided early on that I was going for the brighter shades in my stash (of hoarded Halloween fabric). I really like stitcheries, and decided that the main item had to be just that. I found this gorgeous, happy little bat on a board on Pinterest, made a few minor changes (I skipped some of the teeny tiny stitches going here and there, and added some glow-in-the-dark details in thread). I ended up hand quilting it using the same fluorescent thread (another hoarded item, I think I have two spools). Love the green fabric and the details that were added by the characters.
I've added three extras, as the rules for the swap said, and decided to make all three of them. A mug rug made of Tula Pink fabric (the turquoise and pink fabric), a coffee cosy (I think the fabric qualifies as "ghoulish"? or....?), and an ornament (adorable!) with Frankenstein and pumpkins.
The backing fabrics are all from my stash - a couple of them are so old they're almost qualified as antiques *hahahaha* The hearses is the newest of the three - and I think I need to find an adorably, perfect project for the last little piece left.

Second finished project in 2019
In my advent calendar my mom included a kit for a tablerunner for our new table, complete with pattern, pre-cut fabric and binding (I only had to provide batting and backing - neat!). And in a few quiet moments (divided through most of the Christmas holidays) I managed to finish this in time for New Year's Day, making this my second finished project in 2019 (There's currently no photos of the first finished project, but I'll get to that soon.)
Since I began subscribing to the SewSampler boxes from FQS, I've had a bit of practice sewing blocks - something I didn't really do very much previously. I can see that my earlier projects were more simple squares, stripes and more stitcheries rather than blocks. I always had the impression of this being too difficult for me, that I wasn't accurate enough when sewing to be able to make these blocks.
But look at these stars! They're amazing! All the points may not be 100% perfect, but they're close - and it looks really great! Being challenged and testing out techniques in my own speed is really fun.
The petrol star even matched my Christmas knitting (a large wrap-shawl called Abbie storskjerf)!

Christmas 2018
We decorated our Christmas tree today, and in doing so, I was reminded again and again of friendship and a tie that connects and binds us all around the world. Ornaments of rememberance - of trips, of experiences, of family members no longer with us - and of secret santas from all around the word.
Thanks to Chookyblue I’ve gotten to know so many fellow crafters - and each Christmas is another reminder of how lucky I’ve been - and how lucky I am.
Wishing you all a peaceful evening this second Sunday of Advent.
